After his martyrdom at the hands of the Gestapo in 1945, Dietrich Bonhoeffer continued his witness in the hearts of Christians around the world. This story of a unique fellowship in an underground seminary during the Nazi years reads like one of Paul's letters. Humility of Christian Fellowship

Life Together is a simple-to-digest guide to what Godly fellowship was intended to be, but which seems to have been lost over the ages. One can roughly divide the book into two conceptual halves - Individual fellowship with God and corporate fellowship with the Body of Christ.

In the most basic of language, free from extremely technical theology, Bonhoeffer calls the believer back to a humility which Jesus modeled and proclaimed but which has, sadly, been lost in our Greek-based culture of self-actualization. Indeed, taking Bonhoeffer to heart can prove to be.a formidable challenge to the believer who desires to truly take this book to heart, as it runs counter to the pervasive message of self-love and self-glorification.

I would recommend this book to any believer who desires to know God, but who has experienced difficulty in coming into His presence, whether alone or in the presence of other believers.

Where to begin. Bonhoeffer unashamedly goes to the Word to teach us on how to live with others in community. He has a lot of heavy hitters for how Christians confuse the relationship between God and man, God and the church body, and especially relationships from christian to christian. Without a doubt his heart is for Jesus and to see other follow Him well.

He gives a lot of good theological backing for why christians do the things we need like confession, communion, meet in groups, meet for church, and read our Bibles. He doesn't settle for, "You should just do it, because thoughtfully and carefully explains the importance of these things while using Scripture to heavily back his thoughts.

Loved his simple and consice, as well as easy to read writing style. Cruised through this one in no time.

An irony is that, rather than point a person away from church and sinners, Bonhoeffer encourages us toward church and sinners. We may not even have the chance to love until we have lived in community, sinned against a brother/sister, and have been forgiven. One is given an opportunity to read what Christianity would be "in context" for Christianity cannot be separated from community and common suffering.This book is for people that want to try living in community in a way that asks more of us all, and for those who also interested in ordering their lives with mediation, scripture, and sharing a common life.

Another great reference tool for any lab or student!

Terry Reynold's Pocket Reference is a must for any echocardiology student or lab. If you have a 3rd Edition, the 4th Edition is worth purchasing. New additions to the 4th edition include an expanded 3D echocardiography section, myocardial strain and strain rate imaging and, overall, larger pictures.

The 4th edition has green accents and the 3rd edition has blue accents. The blue is darker and easier to see over the green accents (especially in dimmed rooms). Specifically, the 3rd edition's green arrows in pictures are bolder and easier to see than the 4th edition's blue arrows.

About the Author

John Philip Sousa IV is the only living direct descendent of John Philip Sousa. He served in the Air Force for four years and currently serves as honorary chairman and board member of the Enduring Freedom, Killed in Action Fund. Loras John Schissel is a senior musicologist at the Library of Congress. He is a composer and conductor who has traveled throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, leading orchestras, bands, and choral ensembles in a broad range of musical styles and programs. He is a leading scholar on the life and work of John Philip Sousa. They both live in Chicago.

Valuable addition to your Sousa library

I own a great deal of Sousa band music and have read most of the books about him. I was excited to see a new book about this American phenomenon, written by JPS's great grandson. This book, which takes only about 60-90 minutes to read, is a valuable addition to one's Sousa library. It is mostly a picture book, but the photos, culled from the Library of Congress, the Marine Corps, and other sources, are ones that I haven't seen before. They give the reader a real sense of the time in which JPS lived.

Although this book is not inexpensive, I'm glad I bought it. It's a treasured addition to my library.

Another Look at Sousa

After reading the many outstanding books by Paul Bierley regarding John Philip Sousa, I was led to this new, and rather personal, book on the "March King." Written by John Philip Sousa IV, Sousa's great-grandson, in conduction with Loras Schissel (senior musicologist at the Library of Congress), this ic a very attractive book. More of a pictorial look at Sousa, this book includes many before unpublished photos of "America's first superstar." Included, is a CD of Sousa marches performed by "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band.

Wonderful and insightful!

Outstanding collection of memorabilia related to Sousa's career. I found this at the GIA booth at the Texas Orchestra Director's Conference. It is really insightful and has a lot of information that I have never seen before, including pictures of programs, band members of note, and his favorite hobbies away from the music business.
