This is probably one of the worst books for music theory a person wanting to learn ...

This is probably one of the worst books for music theory a person wanting to learn it could turn to. The key information is buried under a bunch of boring dull commentary . Music theory is something you want to learn quickly, pick up the mandatory rules and get to making music. This book assumes we all have 8 hours a day to study and do the boring examples. Not to mention humans naturally understand certain things about rhythm.and melody. This book sort of describes them as if talking to a robot. What a waste of time! Also, the counterpoint section is extremely deficient. Skip this book and find another one because trust me you ain't got no time fo' this.

The book was offered at a price one fourth that of the new book listings. The book was in very good condition and even came with the CD still included. The estimated time for delivery was as promised. Very good experience.

great author!

Katie Graykowski is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! This book is number 2 in the series, and while you don't have to have read book one to completely understand everything (the author does a good job recapping and re-introducing characters), you totally should read book 1. Grace and Chord are both dynamic, entertaining characters, that you immediately like. Especially Grace, she is one of those female characters that I absolutely love reading about. She is strong, witty, independent, smart, sarcastic, and funny...I basically wish she could be my friend. At the very beginning Chord is a little like a sad puppydog who just needs some love, but as the story progresses we get to see more and more of his personality and humor.

As their relationship progresses we don't have a ton of the typical plot devices that authors like to use in romances. There are no giant misunderstandings, and the few smaller issues we see get resolved quickly. They aren't left to fester for weeks or months. There are a few jealous rivals thrown in the mix, but none of them derail their relationship for more than a couple pages. These two act like how mature adults would act in real life. They have issues trusting, get in fights, get mad at each other, but eventually make up and learn from their mistakes to build their relationship. It's so refreshing to have an author just give us a great story. I cannot wait until book 3.

Lots of lol. Great characters. Loved how the author developed the story and the family. I felt the ending was cut and chopped. I would have liked to see how the kids took the announcement of their marriage. Who gave Grace away? How did the kids react to their new sibling? I just felt robbed. If you like a lot of steamy sex this I s not for you.

So I really, really liked Perfect Summer. I gave it 4.5 stars back when I read it, and since then I’ve thought about going back and changing it to 5 because I just really, really liked it. I felt like it was the perfect mix of funny and sexy and realism and fantasy. So when Saving Grace (the sequel) came out, I was really quite stoked. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel like it was quite as great as Perfect Summer. I still liked it. I just didn’t love it. The humor was just a little over the top and it pushed the boundaries of believability to me. That being said, if you’re in the mood for some light-hearted laughs, it’s still well-written and full of likeable characters.

Overall Rating: 3.5 stars- Worth a few minutes before bedtime.

I’m not going to go on and on. I love Katie Graykowski’s writing but even my favorite authors have a miss sometimes. I wouldn’t go quite THAT far with this one, but it just didn’t give me that man-I-loved-that feeling that most of her writing does. The characters are all completely lovable, but the plot just left me underwhelmed.

If you choose to read Saving Grace, you need to start it with a good dose of suspended disbelief. We have a broke and embarrassed street performer (Grace) saving the neck of an idiot teenager. (That part? Totally believable. Why are we all idiots as teenagers?) But of course, the idiot teenager belongs to a rich guy named Chord and you can guess the rest.

“Yes, I want to date you. I want to get dressed up and take you out on the town – no kids allowed. I want to go to cocktail parties with you and benefits and text you a million times a day and call you up to see what you’re doing even though I only saw you ten minutes ago. You know. . . sappy boyfriend crap.”

Saving Grace felt like a mix of Little Orphan Annie, The Sound of Music, and The Three Stooges. While I like all three of those things, together the outlandish nature of everything (the neurotic dog really put it over the top for me) just didn’t work for me.

It was a light, not-unpleasant read, but just not appointment reading like my previous experience with Katie’s books.

Smut Factor: 3 stars- Not Bad
Character likability: 4 stars- I wish we were friends.
Storytelling: 3 stars- It could happen
Writing and editing quality: 3 stars – A few errors, but nothing that took away from the story.

Ordo Nobilis, an excellent sourcebook for Ars Magica

This sourcebook for Ars Magica will be useful for any saga that involves the machinations of the nobility. It will prove even more useful to the development of knighted companions. The changes made to the combat system will add to the realism of a saga without hampering playability. The authors spent a great deal of time and energy on historical research, and it pays off. In my opinion, this is the best Ars Magica supplement yet published.

Fabulous book for your Companions

This is an essential book for any Ars Magica GM who wants to flesh out their Ars Saga. This tome provides you with inside knowledge on the Companion class of characters.
This title is also a great reference for political structures and social norms of medieval europe. If you are a serious roleplayer into medieval-type settings, you don't want to pass this one by.

A 101 for spiritual seekers

A must read for any individual to catalyze the best out of life while practicing yoga in any form.

This book does not describe ANY detailed steps for any yoga asana.

A must for every one irrespective any religion leanings and whether s/he intends to set on a yogic path or not.

All these years I was advised by my peers and elders not to read Patanjali as it is only for serious practitioners. I say I was misled all these years - understanding the basic grounds before practicing yoga will definitely make life more meaningful while enjoying the practice of yoga.

Besides identifying the need for meditation in life and the yogic asanas required to accomplish samadhi, the teachings in this book instil a sense of general dharmic philosophies of life.

As for coverage of yogic asanas - there are no references to any specific yog'asana, but the narrative references all holistic aspects of yama, niyama, panayama, pratyahara, dhyana (meditation) etc.

Reading the book will immensely help in understanding and respecting the tradition of yoga as a prelude (Prequel) to meditation.

The language used is very lucid, concise and to the point with valid references that drive home the points as needed.

I am gifting this book to my son(16) who is showing keen interest in eastern philosophies and traditions. This will be his second book after 'Autobiography of a Yogi - Swamy Yogananda Paramahamsa'.

Instant classic

The phrase "Instant classic" might sound like an oxymoron but for someone like me who could instantly reap the benefit of clear conceptual exposition (by the author), the usage of the phrase in admiration of the work (namely the book), is quite apt. The language, style and diction used in this book make it very easy to assimilate the essence of the "Yoga Sutras of Patanjali". The author's analysis of the "Mind" and the term/process called "Meditation" is very clearly done and rationally presented to the reader.

Besides the discussion on the 8 limbs of the Patanjali Yoga the author has chapters dedicated to discussing teacher-student relationship; hazards & obstacles to meditation; the basics of Sankhya school (from which the Yoga School of thought developed); Japa (or Chanting of the holy name) - its methods, means, obstacles, etc, amongst other topics. For those of us who want to know what happens to the mind after Samadhi, there is an exclusive chapter discussing this otherwise difficult concept, with great simplicity. Even while discussing the various limbs of the Yoga, the author warns us of the known risks and potential pitfalls for the spritual aspirants (especially while discussing Pranayama).

Simplicity is the hallmark of this presentation. I could never in many readings detect any attempt to mystify what is perhaps the most "royal" path to mental peace and poise. This is one of my personal favorites, when it comes to the topic of mind, meditation or the Yoga sutras, along with Swami Vivekananda's Raja Yoga Lectures and Swami Adiswarananda's "Meditation & Its Practices: A Definitive Guide To Techniques And Traditions Of Meditation In Yoga And Vedanta".

This book does provide the 5-star treatment (clarity, conciseness, organization, advance of theory & application, completeness - 1 star apiece) to the subject and hence deserves the 5 stars.

I've worked with LUMA in the past year and find their materials to be outstanding and their "Looking, Understanding, Making" approach to be very accessible to average people who don't necessarily think of themselves as "innovators". They provide simple methods that help people and groups work together to lead them from idea generation through selection finally to envisioning implementation. Through careful selection and presentation of well-known tools and good external resources for those who wish to learn more, they are able to provide something useful for the novice to the expert. In short, these guys ROCK!

Useful overview of some creative design techniques

Innovating for People gives a helpful short guide to a range of techniques useful in design. Each design technique is shown as a easy-to-read double-page spread, giving a brief explanation, bullet points on how the technique works, helpful hints, benefits and an example and photo of the technique in action. The techniques are classified into different categories (looking, understanding and making) and a diagram shows which techniques work well together. Many of the techniques involve generating ideas and sorting and prioritizing them; there are fewer techniques on how to communicate processes. There is just about enough detail to use the technique - more explanation and expanded examples would help. I can see how to adapt some of the techniques to my design work. I feel this book is most useful as material to accompany one of the Luma Institute's courses on Human-Centred Design, but it does work as a stand-alone resource.

About the Author
Randy Haupt, PhD., is Professor and Department Head of EECS at the Colorado School of Mines. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan and retired from the USAF as a LtCol. Dr. Haupt was an RF staff consultant at Ball Aerospace & Technologies, Corp., senior scientist and department head at the Applied Research Laboratory of Penn State, professor and department head of ECE at Utah State, professor and chair of EE at the University of Nevada Reno, and professor of EE at the USAF Academy. Dr. Haupt is a Fellow of the IEEE and Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).
