Fun dialogue, kept me chuckling -- and reflecting

I have been having so much fun reading these stories aloud before bed with my guy. Each one is like dessert at the end of the day. But more than that, these stories have staying power - I find myself still thinking about them the next day. I'd be hard-pressed to choose a favorite at this point, but the stories with juvenile characters shine. He nails the childhood psyche, spot on. Can't wait for more from McKelvey.

A worthwhile read!

Be Brave was truly magical. I really enjoyed the nostalgic childhood imagery, which occurred in some of the stories. I also really appreciated the honesty that seemingly went into the entire creation of this book, which the author prefaces us with in the very beginning, even in the title. The dichotomy between success and failure as something humans—even humanoid apes—must endure throughout life is brilliantly displayed in the title story and throughout the entire book. I found myself feeling very inspired while reading this. Not only are we all encouraged to keep moving forward despite our fears, we're also reminded that being brave is, more than likely, our only option.

Interesting!

This book was sent to me to read and review. My comments on this book are my own. This is an interesting book on a man that moves to the new world to begin a new life. As a young man, Thomas Barnard traded five years of indentured service to receive free land in a new world. It seemed like a good thing but it cost him everything he had ever known.

The book tells of the difficulties experienced by these men that traveled for months to start over. Thomas earns his land and starts a family. Life was tragic in those days and Claudia describes the joys, loves, and horrors of life as she covers Thomas family through nine generations and five wars. This book is well written and well researched. I have never read any of CA's books before but it's obviously a book born of love and passion. I know this is a book that history lovers will find hard to put down. You may purchase this book at the address below.

A Farming Family in the New World: The Barnard Family Saga in America 1679-2005 by CA Coffey is an interesting family biography. It is a family genealogy that has been researched very well. This book is geared more for this family and I think would mean much more to them than to the general reader. But if you are researching your family history this book might be able to assist you in how to search for information. Included are family pictures, a bibliography, recipes and memoriam. It is well written.
Some of the information that is included is from Ancestry.com. I recommend this book for anyone working on their family history and would like some help in how to proceed. C.A. Coffey did an excellent job with this.

A FAMILY GLIMPSE

Not to be mistaken for a bio, or a historical novel, this is a work where the writer gives us a well-researched look into her own ancestry.
It's a piece of herself, starting with Thomas Barnard who immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1600's, and the trials and tribulations as well as the successes, of following generations. Maryland, KY, IL....these are a few of the places the family has called 'home', you'll read of daily survival and life during times of peace as well as war, beginning with the foundation of this country. There are bl/white sketches throughout the book , nice but unnecessary because in your minds eye you create a visual as you read anyway. The author DOES bring to real life the latter generations with the inclusion of photos.

Of the 7 or 8 energy dictionaries I've reviewed here on Amazon.com, this is one of the best. It's contemporary. Its scope is global. The set of terms it defines is broader than those in the other energy dictionaries I've reviewed. Each definition is descriptively and explanatorily complete. Typographically, the dictionary is easy on the eyes, except for tables that begin on one page and end on another. For some reason, those transitions are messy. But that's just a minor quibble. This is a solid reference work.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in educating themselves about how scientific arrogance and corporate greed have contributed to the steady decline of life on this planet. Nikola Tesla's ideas alone would have spared us many of the ecological disasters we now face. This book deserves 5 stars plus for its disclosure of the years of disinformation we have been given on matters of so much importance to us all.
